Dire straits for Estradas de Portugal

National road authority Estradas de Portugal (EP) may only generate enough money to pay for 57% of its costs between 2013 and 2020.

EP president António Ramalho said the company’s current financing system is “broke” and even after attempts to fix the situation – including increasing the ‘road service contribution’ (CSR), which is part of the tax on petroleum and energy products (ISP), and renegotiating contracts with road concessionaires – the company remains financially unsustainable.
