€1.8 million was incorrectly handed over for recovery of ‘burnt homes’

The Accounts Court has concluded that the CCDR (commission for regional coordination and development) of the Central region handed out €1.8 million for the recuperation of homes ostensibly affected by the killer fires of 2017 when the owners of those homes had absolutely no right to the money. Much worse – bearing in mind this situation resulted in prosecutions that have seen the guilty condemned (click here) – is that “the majority” of the money paid out has still not been recovered, and it is unclear whether it ever will be.
