Water shortages may occur more frequently during the coming decades and begin to affect sectors such as agriculture, energy and the environment, according to university Professor Luís Veiga da Cunha, who is part of an international panel of experts in the field of water.
Da Cunha said that shortages are caused by increases in the use of water for food crops. Although he believes an international law for water management could counteract the shortages, he admitted it would be extremely difficult to implement one.
