THE COMMANDANT of Lisbon’s Municipal Police warned last week that the city’s police force needs an extra 300 to 400 police officers to guarantee security in the city.
This was despite the signing of a recent recruitment protocol with the PSP Police which will train and put an extra 150 police patrolling the city’s streets.
Superintendent André Gomes, in a speech celebrating the 116th anniversary of Lisbon Municipal Police, Polícia Municipal, reminded political leaders of “the 1985 law which had established the need for 857 full-time policemen in the city”.
