Faro doctors in revolt

About 20 doctors at Faro Hospital have threatened a 24-hour walkout on December 20 because they have not received their salaries since July.

According to a report in Correio da Manhã newspaper, if the protest action goes ahead services affected are cardiology, psychiatry, intensive care and urgent radiology.

It is understood that the delay in payment is caused by the fact that the Ministry of Health has yet to approve the contracts of the doctors who are paid by an independent organisation (empresas unipessoas).

An official statement from the hospital administration said the delay has been caused because the analysis of the relevant contracts nationwide was still in process but it is hoped to be done before December 20.
