PRAIA DA Rocha’s main beach was once more the focus of attention at the weekend.
The three-day festivities featuring national men’s and women’s beach football, the Miss Portugal bikini final and a foot-volley exhibition match had its highlight in the João Moutinho All-Star Tournament.
Transmitted live by SIC television, former Portuguese internationals such as Fernando Gomes, Helder, Sá Pinto, Carlos Xavier and Paulo Madeira battled for supremacy on the resort’s hot sands. On the day, the “South”, managed by António Simões, proved superior to their northern opponents by a 9-6 margin, with all proceeds from the game going to the player’s union. This Saturday and Sunday, the same location hosts the final phase of the national beach football championship which brings together the best teams seen in action nationwide over the past two months.
