European Commission president Durão Barroso has nominated former finance minister Vítor Gaspar to head one of the EC’s top level financial think-tanks for digital economy – one that means to define taxes for the sector – and the job comes without pay.
Gaspar, also a former consultant for the Bank of Portugal, told reporters: “I have been connected with European affairs throughout my professional career.”
He resigned from his post as the Portuguese government’s finance minister on July 1 this year, after mounting criticism of the “lack of cohesion” in state policies.
