Local charity Helping Hands in The Algarve supports a variety of worthy causes including the Bombeiros, horse riding lessons for children with cerebral palsy, the children’s home in Loulé and local families in need.
Recently, a consignment of firefighting kit was delivered to the Bombeiros Sapadores de Faro, consisting of 47 firefighter tunics and trousers and 45 pairs of boots. The kit was sourced at CAFFRA, a non-governmental organisation based in the UK, which supports civil protection projects around the world. Thanks went to Phil and Jan Garner who liaised with CAFFRA and the Sapadores.
Algarve Express agreed to transport the kit from the UK to the fire station in Faro. They also covered the cost of transportation from CAFFRA in Grantham to their base in Basildon.
The Sapadores will now sort the kit and prepare it for distribution to some of the less well-equipped fire stations.
On Sunday, November 18, a further €131 was added to Helping Hands in The Algarve funds at the annual charity fair Mercadinho Solidário in the Municipal Market in São Brás de Alportel. Items donated by a variety of supporters in the UK and the Algarve were sold.
Helping Hands in The Algarve is currently organising a dinner and quiz night on Wednesday, December 5 at the Fonte da Pedra restaurant in São Brás de Alportel.
