A freelance travel journalist from Holland completed a 4,500km journey from Amsterdam to Faro in an electric-powered ‘tuk tuk’ motorcycle.
Promoting an environmentally-friendly form of travelling, which was much enjoyed by her dog Ki, her travel companion, Aranka van der Pol said she discovered that “it is possible to travel through Europe in a very green and sustainable manner while visiting beautiful locations”.
After 10 weeks on the road through Holland, France, Spain and Portugal, the Dutch journalist was received in Faro by Mayor Macário Correia on November 15, who congratulated her on the ecological adventure.
Along the way to Portugal, Aranka met up with other journalists, politicians, wine producers and hotel owners to raise awareness about the need to adopt sustainable practices in tourism.
