THE FUTURE of the Silves beer festival, due to be held for the 30th time this summer, is in doubt.
A spokesman for Silves Football Club (SFC), the main organiser of the event, told The Resident this week: “We still don’t know of anything as the management is going to change on June 22 and the current management has not started organizing the event.”
He added they still had no idea where or when the event would be held this year, if at all.
For many years the festival was held within the Silves Castle walls and built a reputation as one of the leading festivals in Portugal, attracting top-name musicians and a multitude of fans and beer lovers from around the country and further afield.
However, the festival’s popularity has waned since it moved from within the castle to the Fabrica do Inglês. Last year the event was held near the Fissul building in Silves.
The SFC has in the past received support from Silves Câmara and, in more recent years, from the Fabrica do Ingles.
A spokesman for the Fabrica do Inglês told The Resident: “The beer festival won’t be hosted here this year; we are not responsible for its organisation.”
