Iniciativa Liberal – the developing political force that so far has just one MP in parliament – has come out against the centre-right Madeiran regional government’s stance on Covid-19, challenging PSD leaders on the mainland to say what they think about them. He claims the measures – effectively limiting freedom to circulate of unvaccinated people – not only undermine fundamental Constitutional rights, they come “without any scientific basis”. As such they are an abuse of power. Madeira’s ban on freedoms of unvaccinated people kicked in over the weekend as elsewhere in Europe similar ‘tough measures’ have seen mass demonstrations.
