Maggots making compost

PORTUGAL’S FIRST maggot based composting farm will open in July and should start recycling waste and producing bio-nutrients at the beginning of autumn this year.

The project, which is promoted by AMALGA, the Alentejo Environment Management Association and the Portuguese company Vermicompostagem Lavoisier, is estimated to cost 200,000 euros.
