Marcelo helps RTP clinch TV ratings victory

THE RETURN to our screens of controversial political commentator, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, gave RTP an overwhelming victory in the TV ratings war on election night (February 20). The public station pushed out commercial channels TVI and SIC to claim the top spot with an average audience of 1.257 million viewers throughout the evening – this corresponds to a 36 per cent share of the market. In second position was TVI, whose election programme was presented by journalist couple, José Eduardo Moniz and Manuela Moura Guede, attracting an average audience of 993,000 viewers – a 27.8 per cent share. In third place was SIC with only 788,000 people tuning in, corresponding to a share of 21.4 per cent.
