At some point this week President Marcelo will be undergoing a surgical procedure (laparoscopy) for an inguinal hernia. Over the weekend he said it would be happening “in two or three days”. It is expected to be “very quick and simple”, meaning there is no need for the president to be substituted albeit he will need a week to 10 days of relative rest in which to recover. Discussing the situation, he said if it was left to him, he would live with it, but “it is prudent to avoid the possibility of it becoming strangulated”. A strangulated hernia can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.
