Missing elderly

A TOTAL of 180 people over the age of 65 went missing last year in Portugal.

A Judicial Police spokesperson said this number is expected to rise in the next few years as the number of elderly people increases. Many disappearances are due to elderly people suffering dementia, being moved to a care home and leaving suddenly because they do not recognise their surroundings.

Only eight missing persons reports from last year for people over the age of 65 are still unsolved.
