Mobile risk

MOBILE PHONES should be forbidden for children under the age of 10 because they could pose a risk to health, say Portuguese specialists.

Although the effects of mobile phone use on health are contradictory, specialists at the Department of Physics at Lisbon’s Higher Health Technology College (Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa) measures should be taken to restrict their use by children.

Nuno Teixeira, who head’s up the Physics Department highlighted a distinct situation in which, according to studies, mobiles could harm children’s hearing and electromagnetic radiation can cause heat damage to the cells in the ear and brain rather like subjecting them to a low intensity microwave oven.
