One person has died, and two others are reported to be seriously injured, as a result of inhaling a virulent mixture of cleaning products at a shopping centre in São Roque do Faial, in Madeira.
It is not immediately clear why the three people were exposed to the mixture. They were all related, and one is just seven years old.
The fatality was an 81-year-old woman who died at the scene, reports Jornal da Madeira.
The survivors, believed to be a mother and child, are being treated at a local health centre.
The incident comes just three days after the island was rocked by tragedy at the religious festival of Nossa Senhora do Monte (click here).
PSP are said the be investigating.
