New president for Portuguese tourism

João Cotrim de Figueiredo is the new president of Turismo de Portugal, the central public authority responsible for promotion, enhancement and sustainability of tourism activities.

The economist was chosen by the government as the successor to Frederico Costa, who gave up his post in October to take over Visabeira Turismo.

The selection process was based on a public tender that was open to applications and managed by the Portuguese Agency for the Selection and Recruitment of Senior Administration Officers.

52-year-old Cotrim de Figueiredo, who studied political science at the London School of Economics, has already worked in a number of prestigious areas. He is a former executive commission president of food and beverage companies Compal and Nutricafés, as well as one-time CEO of Privado Holding, the owner of BPP bank.

Part of the Ministry of the Economy, Innovation and Development, Turismo de Portugal is the national authority that brings together all tourism activities, from the multi-faceted supply sector to demand.
