Hollywood actress already owns apartment in Lisbon, buying second property on Alentejan coast
One applicant for Portuguese residency unlikely to be put through the mill is Australian actress Nicole Kidman, who arrived in Portugal last weekend to put the finishing touches on the purchase of a property on the Alentejan coastal strip so popular with celebrities.
According to SIC Notícias, Ms Kidman has applied for residency with AIMA (the agency for Integration, Migrations and Asylum) which is already struggling with a backlog of similar applications from citizens from all over the world.
Ms Kidman already owns property in Portugal. Expresso refers to an apartment that she bought with musician husband Keith Urban in Lisbon’s Parque das Nações – and now she is buying a larger property in the exclusive Costa Terra Golf & Ocean Club, where celebrity Paris Hilton also has a home, and where price tags for properties start (according to Idealista website) at around €4 million.
This news – widely shared over national media – follows the ‘revelation’ earlier this year that Nicole Kidman is planning to put her career on hold, at least for a while. According to celebrity media, she attributed her decision to the frenetic pace of her career in recent years and her need for rest. In reporting the artist’s statement, the international press also pointed out that she had been ‘overlooked’ for the 2025 Oscars.
