World Environment Day’s (June 5) official celebrations were this year hosted by Norway under the slogan ‘Melting ice – a hot topic?’.
In support of International Polar Year, the World Environment Day focused on the effects that climate change is having on polar ecosystems and communities, and the ensuing consequences around the world.
To mark the day, the United States Ambassador in Portugal, Alfred Hoffman, was at the University of Algarve in Faro to talk about climate change. At the other end of the region, Lagos Câmara held a special exhibition on the Davis Guggenheim directed film, entitled An Inconvenient Truth, presented by former United States vice-president, Al Gore.
