The Ordem dos Enfermeiros – the professional body representing nurses in Portugal – has today come out against advancing with the vaccination of children between the ages of 5-11 against Covid-19, saying priorities should instead remain focused on vaccinating adults, “as quickly as possible”. In an opinion sent to DGS director Graça Freitas – who has already said she is happy to see the vaccine given to children – the Ordem says health authorities should wait “for more scientific evidence as to the cost benefits of vaccinating young children in the medium to long term”.
