Octopus Paul faces grilling

German soccer fans are calling for a public grilling of an octopus that correctly picked the winner of all six of Germany’s World Cup games until the semi-final game loss against Spain.

Paul, also known as the oracle octopus, has become unpopular with German soccer fans and, according to them, he would make a tasty meal.

“Nothing beats grilled octopus,” said Dolores Lusch, a Germany fan who works on a Berlin fish stall.

“Cut him up in thin slices and grill him on all sides with a dash of lemon juice, olive oil and garlic. Delicious.”

Paul correctly predicted that Germany would lose to Serbia in the group stage and win against Argentina, England, Ghana and Australia.

Though Germans are not usually very superstitious, the entire country was distraught after the octopus picked Spain to defeat Germany in the semi-finals.

Paul picked Spain for the winner of the Spain versus Netherlands final match and also picked Germany for the winner of the third place game versus Uruguay.

Paul had a 100 per cent winning rate in his predictions in the South Africa World

Cup 2010.
