UN SECRETARY General, Ban Ki-moon, and US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice were due to attend the delayed meeting of the Middle East Quartet in Lisbon, yesterday (Thursday).
The meeting was due to gather representatives from Russia, the EU and the newly appointed Quartet envoy, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The meeting was originally postponed after the Hamas party seized power in Gaza. UN spokeswoman Maria Obake said: “The meeting takes place at a crucial time and will be an opportunity to assess recent developments.”
