Olhanense appoint new manager

Daúto Faquirá has been unveiled as the new manager of SC Olhanense.

Formerly at E. Amadora prior to taking the helm at V. Setúbal in 2008, he joins Olhanense on a 12-month contract with the option of a further year.

His new technical team includes Nuno Presume, former manager of Rio Maior and Fátima, Diamantino Figueiredo as goalkeeper coach and Gil Henriques will head-up the scouting department.

Helder Rocha, who recently led the Olhanense youth team to the Algarve Championship, completes the backroom staff.

Club President Isidoro Sousa said: “We appreciate all that Jorge Costa did for the club but we now start an exciting new era which will concentrate on developing young talent. Daúto Faquirá and his team are committed to improving Olhanense’s position in the Premier Liga.”

‘wonderful support’

Mozambique-born Daúto Faquirá, who is 44, told the Algarve Resident: “I have been informed of the wonderful support given to the team, both home and away, by the expat members and I look forward to meeting many of them in the months ahead. My team and I are keen to bring new young talent to the club which will enhance its position in Liga Sagres.”

While at V. Setúbal he signed a young unknown, Cissokho, from French league side Gueugnon. After some good performances, Cissokho joined Porto in January 2009.

He was immediately cast into the starting XI of Jesualdo Ferreira’s side, helping to win its fourth consecutive league title and reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

French club Lyon then paid 15 million euros for the young star. He played 30 games for Lyon last season and was on the subs bench for France in their World Cup qualifier against the Irish Republic at Croke Park.

If Daúto can develop similar talent for the Algarveans, then the future looks bright.
