LISBON CÂMARA sent 1,754 old scrap vehicles for recycling in 2006 – the vast majority of them were abandoned on public highways and car parks throughout the city.
Sold for spare parts and scrap metal, the sale generated a total of 220,000 euros. According to the council, removing abandoned cars freed up the equivalent of 10 kilometres of public parking in Lisbon.
