When Charlie Cousin celebrated his 70th birthday last week, he became the 15th member of East Algarve Walking Football to notch up ‘threescore years and ten’.
With a combined age of over 1000 years, the septuagenarians, ably assisted by a few younger members, presented Cockney Charlie with a commemorative mug, Millwall t-shirt and restaurant voucher.
Charlie was born in Camberwell the year that Britain’s first supermarket opened in London, post-war bread rationing ended and Princess Elizabeth gave birth to Charlie’s namesake!
Charlie’s birthday party at the Beira Rio Restaurant, Tavira, was attended by over 100 guests and a raffle raised €240 for the EAWF Olhão defibrillator fund.
