A number of energy saving measures and a pioneer project to reduce public energy consumption in the Loulé council by around 20% were presented by the Câmara last Friday.
Major efforts have been placed in developing a programme to run energy-efficient street lighting and thus a pioneer project in the region, entitled Carta Energética Municipal (Municipal Energy Database), was created by the Câmara in partnership with AREAL, the Algarve’s agency for energy and the environment.
The database is the result of a thorough study of the council’s street lighting systems and the project aims to enable interaction with residents who, upon detecting a faulty street light, a damaged lamp or a case of energy waste, can report these to the Câmara via the interactive energy database found on its website.
A series of maps online show the various streets where public lighting systems can be found. The first areas covered by the project are Loulé and Quarteira, followed later by Almancil and then all other parishes in the council.
