A 39-year-old man has been arrested by PSP police after he was caught red-handed stealing from a house in Tavira.
Dubbed ‘Spider-Man’ by national tabloid Correio da Manhã, the man is believed to have climbed a neighbouring house in order to enter a holiday home owned by a foreigner, just metres away from the military bridge over Rio Gilão.
But his plan was thwarted when he triggered an alarm while entering the house through a skylight. The alarm alerted a private security company, which subsequently led to a PSP patrol being sent to the residence.
The man tried to hide when agents arrived, but he was caught “red-handed” with several electronic gadgets in a travel bag, including a computer, speakers, and a microphone as well as binoculars and several necklaces.
The suspect appeared before a judge but was released pending trial under the “Termo de Identidade e Residência” regime, meaning he is not allowed to leave his area of residence and must be available whenever notified by the authorities.
