Police catch two car break-in thieves

Police arrested two men suspected of some 10 vehicle break-ins at car parks near beaches in the Albufeira area.

The normal tactic of the two thieves, aged 50 and 61, is to drive to a chosen parking lot and then use a pick-lock to gain entry to the targeted vehicle.

They were caught as they tried to steal from a vehicle parked near the beach in Armação de Pêra.

Police discovered a large quantity of stolen goods in the arrested men’s car parked nearby, including mobile phones, cameras, perfumes, stolen bank cards and £150 Sterling and €390 in cash.

Tools and equipment used in the pursuit of the various thefts, such as false car number plates, were also seized by police, who revealed that the arrested men are resident in central Portugal.

In the last four months, eight other suspects of theft from cars in beach car parks have been detained by police who survey the parking areas with high-powered binoculars.
