PSP police are investigating at least seven cases of stolen vehicles in Faro and Vila Real de Santo António since the start of the year.
The latest cases happened in Faro last weekend. One van was stolen, while an attempt to steal an Audi A3 in the early hours of Saturday was botched when the owner heard the vehicle’s engine running and decided to look out from his balcony.
The two thieves had apparently forced the car door open with a crowbar and hot-wired the engine. They then ran away on foot.
Meantime, one of the seven vehicles that had been stolen was recovered in Almancil on Wednesday by GNR police.
One suspect has been identified but police are not yet sure if the thefts are being carried out separately or as part of a network, a PSP source in Faro told Correio da Manhã tabloid.
