Lonely Planet, the number one travel guide book publisher, has given Portugal a resounding thumbs up for 2014.
In an article published on Lonely Planet’s website, it labels Portugal as one of the best destinations for price versus quality.
Albufeira was singled out as the cheapest destination for a family summer holiday, and while Lonely Planet agreed the Algarve in high summer might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it said it was a “very good” destination for those on short budgets.
Lisbon is also mentioned for its “wonderful” and “cheap” coffee and sweets.
And Portugal as a whole is also praised for its incredible surfing conditions.
“Portugal is, for Europeans, a magnificent location to surf without paying the ticket prices traditional destinations of the sport usually present,” says the report.
Lonely Planet’s list of best value destinations also includes Nicaragua, Bulgaria, the Fiji Islands, Mexico, Southern India and Ethiopia.
