Portugal’s big five banks declare profits of over €700 million for first half of 2021

Portugal’s five principal banks have registered a combined profit for the first half of 2021 of €708.4 million, which one newspaper calculates as an average of €3.8 million a day. “The champion of the positive results” is State Bank CGD with €294 million, followed by BPI with €185 million. Nonetheless, these banks are also shedding staff to the point that syndicates say their members are “living in fear”.
