Águas do Algarve has been commended for supplying clean and safe water for human consumption.
The water supply company was awarded a “Quality Stamp” by the national supervisory entity for water supply and wastewater treatment, the Entidade Reguladora de Águas e Resíduos (ERSAR).
In a statement to the press, Águas do Algarve said the accolade was testament to the company’s good performance and should be shared with the Algarve people who turn on their taps daily to consume “top quality water”.
“This ‘stamp’ is very important has it is awarded by the top supervisory entity of water quality in the region,” it said.
The idea to distinguish those companies that contribute towards excellence in the water supply and treatment sector started in 2006 following a partnership between ERSAR and Jornal Agua&Ambiente.
The “Quality Stamp” was awarded for the first time this year.
Águas do Algarve has also received a prize for Best Service in Urban Wastewater Treatment in 2010 and awards relating to its supply of quality water for human consumption in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
