An international appeal designed to gather €58 million for the survivors of the Haiyan typhoon in the Philippines has been launched by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The money will be sent over to the Philippine Red Cross to assist the many hundreds of thousands of people left without food, water, shelter and other essentials as a result of the world’s worst storm.
An underlying goal is also to reconnect families torn apart by the disaster.
Richard Gordon, President of the Philippine Red Cross explained: “The scene is complete devastation. Many people lost their homes and desperately need food, water and shelter. It will be a long road towards recovery”.
Anyone wishing to contribute to international aid efforts can make donations to the Portuguese Red Cross via bank transfer, ATM or cheque.
