FERAL PIGS in Berlin have led to local authorities considering hiring professional hunters to track and kill the swine that are destroying gardens and disrupting traffic in the city.

Pigs have been running riot and have even attacked residents.

The latest incident involved 69-year-old Nickolaus Basedow, who stumbled upon a sow while walking his dog in a Zehlendorf park.

He was treated for a 15cm cut to his leg caused by the sow, who was protecting her piglets.

Wildlife expert Derk Ehlert told German magazine Der Spiegal that attacks on humans were rare and estimates that there are between 4,000 and 6,000 wild boars living in and around Berlin.
