Slash council tax calls by landlord and tenants association

A REDUCTION in planning permission fees for doing up houses and apartments and setting out criteria for restoration and home improvement grants are just some of the measures being put forward by both landlord and tenants associations to Lisbon Câmara’s new president.

“Municipal councils should reduce the price for planning permission licenses said António Machado, Chairman of the Lisbon Tenants Association. The association is also calling for the Municipal Council Tax (Imposto Municipal sobre Imóveis) to be slashed by a half on buildings rented out.

According to Machado, this last proposal would encourage property proprietors to do up their buildings first and rent them out later.
