Not content with collecting money where it is due, the state’s debt-collectors are coming up with new ruses to fill the nation’s coffers. Last week a 41-year-old man residing in Castelo Branco received a letter from Social Security demanding €41.10 for benefit he had allegedly received from the government during his high-risk pregnancy five years previously!
Such was Social Security’s zeal to collect the money they hadn’t the sense to check their victim was male.
Speaking to his local newspaper, Albino Ribeiro admitted not being able to recall his pregnancy but hope it makes him eligible for a cash prize for being Portugal’s first pregnant man.
According to the letter, Ribeiro now has 30 days to pay up.
