Striking gold in London

WINEMAKER ANTÓNIO Maçanita and vineyard specialist David Booth have been awarded the Alentejo Trophy at one of the world’s most prestigious wine shows, the 2007 International Wine Challenge in London.

António’s gold medal winning wine, Preta 2004, also struck gold at the Challenge International du Vin and Les Citadelles du Vin in Bordeaux.

In London, the producer picked up a further two silver medals for two other reds, Sexy 2005 and Preta 2005.

Portugal won a total of 36 gold medals finishing 3 rd place behind France (44) and Australia (39). British wine critic Jancis Robinson MW praised this as a “great achievement for a smaller wine-producing nation”.

“We are delighted to achieve this result in such a vigorously judged show.” said António Maçanita of Fita Preta Vinhos.

“Winning top medals for all our red wines show we are maintaining consistently high standards,” said David Booth.

While much of Fita Preta’s production is destined for export, their wines can be found in top restaurants and wine merchants around Portugal.
