LISBON WILL once again be the stage for Portugal’s biggest summer party starting in June and continuing until September.
Organised by Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural (EGEAC), the annual Festas de Lisboa 2007 (Lisbon Parties) will have the usual mixture of music and colour with the traditional Marchas Populares (Popular Marches) on June 12 down the city’s Avenida da Liberdade, the Lisbon São Jorge Cinema Festival (June 2-8), the Africa Festival (June 28, 29, 30 and July 2-8), and a host of other musical and theatrical events in July.
Among the new events scheduled for this summer’s three month party are Lisboa Lírica (Lyrical Lisbon) between July 7 and 13, which will bring world class opera performances to São Jorge Castle such as Madame Butterfly (July 13) and Noite Rossini (July 7), and a concert by Rodrigo Leão and the Cinema Ensemble with the Lisbon Symphony Orchestra conducted by maestro Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, at the Torre de Belém (July 6).
Other events include the Fado Festival (June 8-30) and the International Fancy Dress, Masques and Comedians Festival (August 23-September 9), the International Puppet and Animated Arts Festival (until June 10), Cinema Classics Festival (June 28) and the Lisbon International Digital Cinema Festival (throughout June).
