Dear Editor,
I read with great joy about the first of several warships to be sunken in front of Portimão.
Since being Managing Director of the Vilamoura Marina (1998-2004) I was wishing for such a thing to happen.
May be technically demanding but is such a simple idea to boost tourism.
Divers, like golfers, are value adding visitors who are not minimal spenders. Diving destinations are well known to produce jobs. And underwater parks are really great for sea life.
Hopefully the idea will catch on and more themed underwater parks will be eventually developed in front of the respective towns:
Faro – airport – airplane museum
Olhão- fishing- fishing boat museum
Sagres- discoveries- discovery museum
Tavira- historic town- historic museum
… and so on.
Today the Algarve is famous for being a top golfing destination. A new very good thing just started.
