It’s a new boon, showing the upturn in Portugal’s economy is making a difference on every level: the country’s unemployment rate fell to its lowest since “at least 2008” in September – 8.6%, revealed national statistics institute (INE) on Monday.
The jobless rate compared to 10.9% in September 2016, though youth unemployment was still high: 25.7%.
In total, the country had 442,000 jobless on its books.
The figure will obviously fluctuate through the winter months but for now it’s something of a record, and a positive one at that.
