Unemployment drops against all odds

Despite the endless lines employment centres are faced with every day, the National Statistics Institute has revealed that unemployment dropped to 15,6% between July and September.

This means unemployment decreased 3.7% compared to the same period last year and 5.3% compared to the three months prior.
The data contradicts predictions made by economists who believed unemployment would increase after dropping between April and June.
Nonetheless, unemployment levels are still grave – over 830,000 people remain jobless.
Recent forecasts by the government included in the 2014 State Budget expect unemployment to reach 17.4% of the active population in 2013 and 17.7% in the following year.
