A TEACHER in Japan who threw a chair at his students was awarded the title of Super Teacher by the local education board, even after being chastised several times before for using corporal punishment.
He has been awarded the title for the past two years in a row despite his antics because his teaching methods have actually improved his students’ performance. The teacher has now resigned, after he had been on medical leave since his latest violent attack.
School systems in Japan have been at the heart of political debate for some time and some politicians have called for stricter discipline and even harsher forms of punishment for students. Others say that children are under too much pressure and are often bullied.
