Wickedly sharp, dark comedy about British politeness opens in Lisbon

The Unfriend, from writer of Doctor Who and Sherlock

“A wickedly sharp, dark comedy about British politeness” opens in Lisbon on July 17  and promises a ‘great night out’.

Written by Steven Moffat – famed for the revival Doctor Who series, Sherlock, and quite a few other excellent television series – this play is the latest from the stable of The Lisbon Players – the theatre company of multilingual talents which performs in English.

Directed by actress and powerhouse Celia Williams, it all starts with a British couple setting out on a sunny cruise, expecting to meet new people. The quirky Elsa appears “sweet and eccentric” – but when she turns up on their doorstep after the holiday is over, “the lines between British politeness and sheer panic” start to blur.

There is no political message, it’s just well-written fun, and a great story to boot, says the blurb, and it will be running at the Sala de Teatro do Clube Estefânia/ Escola de Mulheres through till July 27.

Tickets available through BOL. This is another delicious reason to travel up to Lisbon for a ‘spot of culture’.
