A new strategic model intended to promote Portugal as a tourism destination abroad was presented last week by Turismo de Portugal in the Algarve.
Attending the meeting were Turismo de Portugal’s Luís Matoso, vice president, Miguel Morais, chief operations officer, and Turismo do Algarve’s President Desidério Silva.
The meeting also served to discuss the marketing strategies to promote the Algarve destination as a specific region that contributes greatly to the country’s exports sector.
It has also been agreed that the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) would be ‘heard’ periodically so that the Algarve’s input could be taken into account when planning national strategies for the region.
Desidério Silva said that the meeting “showed a clear sign of proximity between Turismo de Portugal and its regional partner”, announcing that action plans and strategies for 2013 will be “innovative”, focussing on creativity and good use of the available resources, which will be fundamental to differentiate the destination.
The meeting is part of a series between Turismo de Portugal and regional entities, to create synergies when promoting Portugal locally and worldwide.
Both entities have scheduled monthly meetings to develop and monitor the new marketing plan’s execution.
