ACCORDING TO animal protection agency SOS-Animal, there have never been so many animals left abandoned in one summer as this year.
SOS-Animal founder, Lígia Santos, said they had spoken to other associations, compared statistics and all agreed that they had never seen so many abandoned animals. Santos said that life can be very financially challenging but people need to realise that when people choose to adopt a pet, it should be for life.
Santos believes many animals are adopted in the winter and when summer comes, families are not willing to take their pet with them or pay for someone to look after it, which is why so many are abandoned.
