Azorean airline SATA inaugurated a new route on June 18 that will see the Algarve linked to Madeira and the Azores throughout the summer season.
“This new link is part of a strategy to extend the growing range of destinations provided by SATA,” said Vasco Cordeiro, the regional secretary for the economy.
He added: “This route will allow the connection of the three holiday destinations and the link to Faro now means that the Azores is accessible for passengers from all Portuguese airports.”
President of SATA, António Gomes de Menezes said that the new route had come about partially because of “demand from tour operators” and he added that there were already reservations made for the flights which are “receiving the amount of demand we expected”.
This is the first regular flight service to be operate between Ponta Delgada in the Azores, Funchal in Madeira and Faro in the Algarve and will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays until September 13.
