Mário Custódio appointed Portugal Operations Director at Domes Resorts

Move comes as Greek hotel group expands presence in Algarve

Mário Custódio, a hotelier with over 20 years of experience, has been appointed Director of Operations in Portugal for the Greek hospitality group Domes Resorts.

The appointment comes at a time of growth for the group, which is expanding its footprint in Portugal through a partnership with HIP and the integration of the Cascade Wellness Resort in Lagos into its network – marking Domes Resorts’ second unit in Portugal and third outside Greece.

With more than two decades of experience in tourism and hospitality, Custódio steps into the role after a decade as general manager of several high-profile hotels. He will now oversee multiple operations in Portugal, focusing on service quality, team development and strengthening the brand’s position in the market.

Until now, he served as general manager of the Domes Lake Algarve – Autograph Collection in Vilamoura, previously the group’s only resort outside Greece, playing a “key role in establishing the unit as a leading luxury destination in the Algarve” and the “brand’s expansion in Portugal”.

Over the course of his career, he has worked with major hospitality groups including Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, Minor Hotels, SANA Hotels and Hilton, leading several well-known properties such as the Tivoli Carvoeiro, Tivoli Palácio de Seteais, EPIC SANA Algarve and the Hilton Vilamoura As Cascatas Golf Resort & Spa.

Custódio holds a degree in Hotel Management from the Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies. He also completed a postgraduate qualification in hospitality at the Faro School of Hospitality and Tourism, along with an executive course in Luxury Brand Management at the ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics and Management.

“After so many cycles as a general manager in luxury hospitality, the time has come for a new chapter,” he said.

“Leadership is not just about growth, but also about timing, knowing when we are ready for a bigger challenge and when experience can generate even greater impact. These past two decades have shaped me through challenges, resilience and transformation. Everything I have learned now becomes the foundation to support multiple operations, inspire leaders and help elevate the performance of the Domes brand in Portugal,” Custódio added.

In a statement, Domes Resorts says Custódio’s appointment reflects its strategy to expand in key Mediterranean destinations, supported by experienced leadership and partnerships, with a focus on delivering high-quality hospitality.
