THE ALGARVE has been voted the best tourism region in the country by the Portuguese at the annual Gala of Tourism.
The event was organised by Publituris, one of the biggest Portuguese newspapers in the tourism sector, and this was the first time the “Best Region” category had been included.
The organisers draw up a list of companies and personalities for the 28 categories and open these up to internet voting by Publituris readers. A jury of academics, politicians, associations and companies then selected the three most voted to choose the winners.
The Algarve region was also the winner in the categories for best golf destination, with Victoria Clube de Golf; best countryside resort, with Monte Velho Resort, in Aljezur; and best travel agency, with Portimar.
