All appointments for visa applications for job seekers in Portugal will be cancelled from tomorrow, the government has announced today. The reason is that the general work visas are to be replaced by specific visas for skilled job-seekers.

Even so, applications for visas seeking skilled employment can only be submitted when “the new type of visa is subject to the necessary regulations, in line with the provisions of the new Foreigners Act.”
Thus, for the time being, Portuguese consular posts and visa application centres of external service providers (VFS Global/BLS International/TLScontact) “will not be able to accept visa applications for job seekers”, says a note from the office of the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs.
Law No. 61/2025 of October 22, 2025, which approved the Foreigners Law and includes these amendments, was published today in Diário da República.
